Precipitation Modeling at the Climate Hazard Group

The Climate Hazard Group specializes in geospatial precipitation modeling. We have three main objectives:

  1. The development of historical time-series of precipitation grids through the fusion of multiple data-sources. More details on the Collaborative Historical African Rainfall Model can be found here.

  2. Improving our understanding of the basic mechanisms controlling tropical and sub-tropical precipitation. Recently submitted papers examining the role of upper-level winds and factors controlling rainfall in sub-Saharan rainfall are available here and here.

  3. Enhancing our ability create accurate satellite rainfall estimates, incorporating orographic effects. A paper on this topic is also available.
